You have to read all these job related factors, this can be done by looking at the company website, knowing what kind of business the company is in.
Former and current employees are also a very good source of information. There is nothing like first hand information on the person that will be reading your resume and covering letter. If you are well networked their is a good chance that someone in your network has a contact in this company.

What are the pay scales in this company
Are promotions common
How old is your immediate supervisor
Do I have to relocate
Are mergers common in this industry
What kind of environment exists and would I like to work in it
Do they have a high staff turnover
Some of these question you can answer yourself with some good research others, you have to tactfully ask during the interview process
