Environment:

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is an international organisation supported by 31 States*. Its prime objectives are the operational production of analyses, medium-range forecasts of weather and ocean waves and seasonal forecasts as well as scientific and technical research directed to the improvement of these forecasts. Main duties:
This part-time post (20 hours per week) is located in the Administration Department of ECMWF and forms an integrated part of a small team providing secretarial and clerical support to the various Sections within the Department. Some flexibility in the working hours will be required from time to time.
The main duties of this post are:

To assist the ECMWF Translator in the preparation and completion of documents in German
To provide assistance to other Sections within the Administration Department as and when required

Qualifications:
Good standard of secondary education and a secretarial qualification, together with some experience in work of a similar nature. Experience in word-processing (MS-Word or similar) is essential, together with the willingness to learn new programmes. Competency in MS-Excel, Adobe, web publishing software and MS-Powerpoint would be advantageous. The selected candidate should be able to work under pressure, adapt to changing work requirements and be able to integrate into a small team of international staff.
As this person will primarily be assigned to the Translator for German, the successful candidate should preferably be of German mother tongue and have an excellent command of written German. Fluency in English is also essential and some knowledge of French would be desirable.
Staff are normally recruited from among the nationals of the following Member and Co-operating States: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom.

Remuneration:

B3: £1,162.63 to £1,546.48 basic salary per month net of tax.
In principle, a staff member will be engaged at the lowest step of the grade of the post for which he or she is selected.
A deduction will be made from the basic salary for the Pension Scheme and for Partial Invalidity (currently 8.8% for the Pension Scheme and 0.2% for Partial Invalidity). A further 1.46% of basic salary and related allowances is currently deducted for the Centre’s Supplementary Health Insurance Scheme.
Where applicable: household allowance of 6% of basic salary; children’s allowance of £207.56 at 50% per child per month; expatriation allowance of 14% or 18% of basic salary for expatriates; education allowance at 50% for children of expatriates will be added.

Starting date: As soon as possible

Length of contract: Maximum of four years for initial contract, with the possibility of renewal.
